The fall shelf is up

Small pumpkins, dried wheat and the first candles of the season are out front.

Every year we clear the front table around the middle of September, and every year it feels too early right up until the moment it's done. The seasonal shelf is up now, and it's the first thing you'll see when you walk in.

What's on it right now

• Dried wheat and bittersweet bundles, sold loose so you can build your own.
• A small run of amber-jar candles in fig, cedar and sweet pumpkin, poured here in Texas.
• Stoneware bakers and pie plates in the colors we only bring in for fall.
• Cotton table linens in rust and olive, plus a few napkin sets.
• Little painted gourds from a maker outside of Lockhart — there are about forty, and that's all.

Most of this is a one-time buy. When the pumpkins go, they go, and we don't reorder. If you saw something on our page and want us to set it aside, just let us know and we'll keep it behind the counter for a couple of days.

Holiday timing

We'll start rolling holiday goods onto the same shelf in early November. If you're shopping for gifts and want first look, stop in on a weekday morning — it's the quietest the shop gets, and there's usually coffee.
