Bring us your grandmother's recipe card

We are collecting handwritten family recipes to print and hand out at the register this October.

A customer came in a few weeks ago with a tin box like the one above — her mother's, full of cards in three different hands, some of them stained through. We stood at the counter reading them for twenty minutes. That's where this idea came from.

Here's what we're doing

Through the end of September, bring in a family recipe — or email us a photo of the card. In October we'll print a small booklet of them, credit each one the way you'd like it credited, and give it away free at the register with any purchase.

• Bring the card in and we'll photograph it at the counter and hand it right back. Nothing stays with us.
• Or email a photo to megan@thewellverdict.com with the name you'd like on it.
• Tell us whose recipe it is: "Dorothy's icebox pie, Dayton, Ohio, 1974" beats "icebox pie" every time.

A few ground rules

We'll only print what you give us permission to print, and we'll never publish your last name, address or phone number. If you change your mind before we go to press, send us a note and we'll pull it — no explanation needed.

We're hoping for the ordinary stuff: weeknight casseroles, the cake somebody always brings, the pickle recipe nobody measures. If it's splattered and hard to read, all the better.
